Commandée chez PCMIDI.EU, cette carte son intègre les fonctionnalités suivantes:

  • Contrôleur ESS ES1869S (compatibilité AdLib,SB/SB PRO avec support SB ADPCM)
  • Compatibilité OPL2/OPL3 et ESFM
  • Effets chorus et reverb via le DSP ESS ES690F
  • Synthé General Midi avec 32 voix de polyphonie (tables d’ondes de 1MB)
  • 1 port MIDI en mini-jack (cable breakout fourni)
  • 1 port de connexion pour une carte fille Wavetable
  • Les E/S traditionnelles Line/Mic
  • 1 port USB-C pour de futures extensions ?

Le coût de la carte était de 130€. Un prix correct en vu de la prestation livrée.

MediaTriX AudioTriX Pro

Une perle rare aujourd’hui, les cartes sons produites par la société canadienne Mediatrix sont devenues quasiment introuvables, ou alors à des prix stratosphériques 🙁

Suite à l’achat d’un IBM PS/1 2123, quelle ne fut pas ma surprise lorsque je l’ai trouvée à l’intérieur. L’annonce ne précisait rient et au vu des photos je m’attendais plutôt à trouver un énième clone de SoundBlaster. Bref…

Voici ce que proposait cette AudioTriX Pro:

  • Un synthé FM 20 voix compatible OPL2 et OPL3
  • Un synthé à table d’onde AWM (2MB) avec 24 voix de polyphonie
  • Du full duplex jusqu’à 44 kHz
  • un faible bruit (-87db)
  • ports pour des extensions extrêmement chères (carte 512kb ram et carte d’effet)

Le synthé FM et AWM sont intégrés dans la puce YMF278B-F (OPL4) couplée à un DAC YAC513-M. Les drivers fournis pour Win 3.11 permettait (sur des fichiers midi de démo) de jouer les 44 voix simultanément (24 AWM+20 FM). Très impressionnant pour l’époque mais jamais utilisé dans les jeux. Cependant cette carte était plus orienté composition musicale, d’ailleurs la sortie midi/gameport est câblée différemment du standard SoundBlaster car elle proposait le trio midi in, out et thru. Les samples AWM eux sont contenus dans la puce YRW801-M. Il s’agit d’un simple kit General MIDI de 2MB.

La partie audio est gérée par la puce Crystal CS4231A-KL. Cette puce ne dipose pas de synthé FM intégré, les prochaines itérations l’auront et proposeront le synthé FM nommé CrsytalFM.

Yamaha SW1000XG

Obtenue pour la somme dérisoire de 45€ (par chance), la dernière carte son PCI de Yamaha propose les fonctionnalités suivantes:

  • 2 entrées analogiques – mini jack (convertisseur Bur Brown 20bits) malheureusement avec un souffle énorme 🙁
  • 2 sorties analogiques – RCA (convertisseur NEC 18 bits 64x oversample)
  • 1 sortie numérique S/PDIF en RCA
  • 1 E/S Midi via un câble breaktrough mini-din 6 broches
  • Enregistrement en 44.1 kHz (1 stereo) et lecture (6 stéreo) en 48, 44.1, 22, 11 et 8 kHz
  • 5 modules d’effets indépendants (12 reverb, 14 chorus, 70 variations et 2 inserts avec 43 types d’effets)
  • 1 EQ 5 bandes paramétrique en sortie principale et 1 EQ 2 bands par voie MIDI
  • 1 synthé AWM2 avec une rom de 20Mb, 64 voies de polyphonie, multi-timbral sur 32 parts répondant à la norme XG et GM

La carte est inutilisable sous DOS, elle était dédiée pour la composition musicale avant tout. On peut cependant la piloter via MIDI et correspond plus ou moins à un MU100R sur une carte PCI.

Elle pouvait être aussi mise en « SLI » avec la Yamaha DS2416 (DSP Factory) qui gérait la partie audio uniquement.

Enfin pour terminer, la SW1000XG dispose d’un connecteur pour accueillir les cartes plugins de la série PLG (PLG100/PLG150) Ces cartes ajoutaient un type de synthèse différent ou des sons de qualité supérieure:

  • PLG100DX: ajoute un DX7 complet. Remplacée plus tard par la PLG150-DX (possibilité de sauvegarder les sons)
  • PLG100VL: ajoute la synthèse à modélisation physique .Remplacée par la PLG150-VL
  • PLG150-PF: ajoute 64 voies de polyphonie pour des pianos acoustiques et électriques avec un meilleur échantillonnage.
  • PLG150-AN: ajoute la synthèses à modélisation analogique similaire au synthé AN1x du même constructeur
  • PLG100-XG: rajoute un second synthé awm2 XG avec 32 voies de polyphonies supplémentaires
  • PLG150-DR: ajoutes des samples de batteries
  • PLG150-PC: ajoute des samples de percussions latines
  • PLG100VH: ajoute un harmoniseur vocal
